Americans Must Stop Desecrating our Flag

As American citizens, we understand what the American flag symbolizes: generations of sacrifice to defend our liberty and democracy.  And we respect the flag because of that sacrifice. 

 

But lately, people across this country seem to think it’s acceptable to disrespect our national banner. They did it during the BLM rallies and they did it during the January 6th Capitol attack. And they are still doing–selling cheap Chinese merch that desecrates the flag with political slogans and faces, especially Donald Trump’s.  

 

Americans need to be reminded—

 

It’s not okay to burn the flag. 

It’s not okay to replace the Capitol flag with the Trump flag. 

And it’s not okay to deface the flag with the face of a politician emblazoned over the stars and stripes. 

 

The American flag belongs to no one political group.

 

Anyone who desecrates the flag in any way is disrespecting our nation and the values she represents and protects. 

 

We know better, America—and we can’t let it happen again, especially not on the steps of our nation’s Capitol.
